HIFEM stands for High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology. It uses a rapidly changing magnetic field to induce deep, supramaximal muscle contractions — contractions stronger than you can achieve through voluntary exercise alone. Depending on where and how it’s applied, this can be used to train pelvic floor muscles (our HIPEX Chair) or larger muscle groups like the abdomen, glutes, arms and calves (our CMSlim device).

The device generates a rapidly changing magnetic field. As this field passes through your body, it induces an electrical current in the tissue underneath — this is a basic principle of physics called electromagnetic induction, not something the device is “injecting” into you. That induced current directly stimulates the motor neurons controlling the target muscle, causing them to fire and produce a full, involuntary contraction — bypassing your usual voluntary brain-to-muscle signal entirely.
Because this contraction is more complete than what most people can achieve through voluntary effort alone (known as a “supramaximal” contraction), and because it’s repeated many hundreds or thousands of times within a single session, the muscle is forced to work far harder than it would during normal exercise. Over a course of treatment, this repeated stimulation does two things: it helps re-establish and strengthen the neuromuscular pathway between the brain and the muscle — effectively re-educating muscles that have become weak, deconditioned, or hard to consciously engage (common with pelvic floor muscles after childbirth, for example) — and it drives genuine physical adaptation within the muscle tissue itself, similar to the changes seen after a structured strength-training program.
